Anna & Roman Küffner
Blackbird Street

Behind the artistic name BlackBird Street are Anna and Roman Küffner, a photographer couple from Cologne specializing in the exploration and photographic documentation of abandoned places. Since 2012, they have been searching for so-called “lost places” – deserted houses, theaters, cinemas, castles, and hospitals – throughout Germany and across Europe.

Their photographs are far more than mere documentation: with a fine sensitivity to light, structure, and atmosphere, they tell quiet stories of departure, decay, and transience. Their works open a space for the viewer’s own associations and touch on a silent, profound level. By consciously avoiding staged interventions and using natural lighting, Anna and Roman preserve the original atmosphere of the places and make the hidden magic visible.

BlackBird Street use modern HDR technology to capture the depth and subtle nuances of these abandoned worlds without distorting their authenticity. In doing so, they respect the history of each place and only enter with the permission of the owners.

Their works have already been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including in New York, Munich, Cologne, and Düsseldorf. Through their imagery, BlackBird Street invite viewers to discover beauty in decay, to feel the power of transience, and to embark on a poetic journey through space and time.
