Sculptor

Cornelia Martin Garcia

The human body in all its forms of expression is the most represented body in art. I have also succumbed to this magical attraction and shape bodies out of stone. Through lengthy chipping, scraping and sanding of the stones, I expose the final form. I have chosen this most ancient material in the history of the earth’s creation because there is a magic in it that fascinates me. The slender and the full-round, the filigree, the fine and the powerful, the coarse, the translucent and the mat, the fullness and the sparseness, the proud and the modest, the stillness, the elegance, the eroticism of a pregnant woman or a mother with child; the flow of movement, the stillness, the expression of feeling; in short: the whole palette of being a woman interests me. In addition, I modulate abstract sculptures that require a completely different treatment and approach than the human body. This results in individual rules of form that develop anew with each stone. For some years now, I have been producing replicas of my works in bronze and cast stone.

“Die wahre Kunst, kommt aus dir selbst.”
