Gabriele Musebrink was born in 1955 in Essen, Germany. From 1975 to 1983, she studied art – including at the Folkwang School in Essen-Werden and at the Comprehensive University of Essen.
In 1983, she moved into a loft apartment in the southern part of Essen. The space had previously been used as an atelier, including by one of her former professors, Rudolf Knubel, and originally belonged to a printing company. In 1996, she expanded and moved into additional parts of the building complex: this marked the beginning of her current studio along with the spaces for her Hofwerkstatt (courtyard workshop), which includes the integrated Musebrink Art School.
After her studies, from 1983 to 1992, she worked independently as a graphic designer and visual artist. She led workshops in “free painting,” curated exhibitions for the Diocese of Essen, the Old Synagogue of Essen, the former Archaeological Museum in Altenessen, and for eight years she also worked regularly for the Ruhrland Museum Essen, focusing on exhibition design (particularly spatial installations and graphics).
In 1992, she quit her side work to become fully self-employed again. She remained based in Essen. However, until 2002 she spent extended periods in Montescudaio, Italy, together with her then-husband. On her own, she undertook hiking trips through Norway, where she also stayed for some time. Both Italy and Norway deeply touched the innermost layers of her being, and the experiences from those years inspired a strong material expression in her paintings.
In 1997, she founded the Hofwerkstatt in the courtyard of the former printing house, along with her own art school – a cultural space for art, exhibitions, and Far Eastern movement and concentration disciplines. About 10 teachers work at her school. With this school, she fulfilled a personal vision: a school that doesn’t play the authoritarian role, but instead examines problems from various perspectives.
From 2000 to 2005, she was deeply engaged in process work with the German-English Advaita teacher OM C. Parkin, alongside her then-partner Hans Steinke, a teacher in consciousness work. This training brought fundamental clarity and strength into her life – an eye-opener for a broader view of the inner world.
In 2008, she found in Manuel Schoch – healer and founder of Time Therapy – the essence of simple being and the goodness within everything.
For several years now, she has been performing at public art events, where she demonstrates her working process to audiences. She welcomes questions from the public about technique, courage, authenticity, and creativity. Her exhibitions have so far spanned across Germany and Europe.
